Atari 2600 Defend your Castle Review
Defend your Castle is a homebrew Atari 2600 game created by Mr-Atari on Atariage.
In it you are “You are operating the catapult, defender of your castle.
Your goal is to destroy the opponents’ castle before he destroys yours…..”
The ROM for the game is free to download, but what’s interesting is if you would like a physical copy of the game, he offers a DIY kit for sale on his website for 15 Euro shipped, he will ship you the PCB, which is a circuit board containing the game and he also ships the cartridge label. You can then use that package and combine it with a physical cartridge of your own.
The PCB he supplies is compatible with the text/picture/silver/red-label 2600 cartridges, not for use with 3rd party cartridges.
On his website you can download the box art and manual should you decide to create your own complete in box copy of the game. That is EXACTLY what I have decided to do in this video. I have never actually attempted to do this before, and that is what most of this video is about, the process of creating and forming the box, manual and placing the PCB in a physical cartridge. I do make a few mistakes maybe more than a few, some cringe worthy, in the process, so bear with me. Having said that, let’s jump into it and I’ll start out showing the box printout I was able to produce. From going to kinkos. At the end of the video I’ll show some game play and let you know my thoughts on the game.
Youtube Description:
In this video, I create the box & manual and use an old Atari prototype cartridge shell to give the Defend your Castle PCB a new home. There is a short review of the game in the tail three minutes of this video.
