You Only Live Twice (1967)

The first sequence in this film shows an American spacecraft being eaten by an alien spacecraft of unknown origin.  The first transition to Bond was terrific, “yes we have an agent in the field working on that now”, cut to Bond in bed with a beautiful Chinese woman.  Love the intro music.  Bond is supposedly killed in the first scene he is in.  Of course, this was staged to make it look like he was dead.  His body is then buried at sea where British divers pick him up and bring him into the inside of a British submarine.  When they cut him out of his dive suit/burial uniform he springs up and requests permission to come aboard.  He is then tasked with discovering the source of the unknown spacecraft.  His mission is to go to Japan to find out who is behind the attacks.  This is Bonds’s first time ever going to Japan.  He immediately hooks up with a beautiful Japanese woman and not too long afterward he utters the famous quote the “the things I do for England”.  Bond is outfitted with a spy helicopter with rocket-propelled grenades, a flamethrower, and all kinds of gadgets.  The first time he takes the helicopter up to explore a crater,  he ends up being tailed by four attack helicopters and has to use his gadgets to survive.  He then meets up with a famous Japanese spy who sets him up to be married to a Japanese woman and he also undergoes two days of ninja training.  He was training to be a ninja so that he could blend in with the rest of the ninjas so that when they attack the crater the defenses he would be ready.  The crater is the home of the famous villain who pets the white cat.

The film ended on a raft with a beautiful Japanese woman and a British submarine spoiling his fun.

This is my favorite James Bond so far from the set I like everything about this one.  They didn’t overdo the tech, the music was just right, the women, everything about it was terrific.   Highly recommended.
