This is the first film I’ve seen this year starring Angelina Jolie. It is essentially the classic tale of The Sleeping Beauty retold. It’s a world in which there is basically a sub-division between the fairy mystical world and the regular human beings. I have a few problems with the suspension of my disbelief because of the way the story was told. they introduce a young ferry Angelina Jolie to a young boy who is a human and eventually they fall in love. Spoilers… For whatever reason, the young man decides he cannot stay with Angelina and has aspirations of becoming the king of the land. He is in luck. The existing King is in ill health and he issues a proclamation the person that brings me the ferry dead will become the king. The young man having befriended the ferry was able to get in close with her and had an opportunity to kill her but he cannot bring it in his heart to follow through so he instead cut her wings off and brought those back to the King has proof of her demise. For this act, he is greatly rewarded by inheriting the kingdom. Upon waking up she realized who had betrayed her and she was determined to get revenge. Her revenge came in the form of a spell cast on the king’s daughter that she would fall asleep at the age of 16 and only true love’s kiss could release her from the spell. She believed that there was no such thing as true love having been scorned herself. The new King realizing what the ferry had done decides to excommunicate his daughter so that she may never be affected by the spell until the age of 16. A few scenes later we are introduced to a four-year-old girl named or Aurora who is actually played by Angelina Jolie’s real daughter. Jolie in essence becomes the godmother of this child-raising her in seclusion. During this time she finds out what true love really is.
I really enjoyed the story, the way it was told, as well as the cinematography.
