Life of Pi (2012)

I watched this film over the weekend at the theater in Ontario and it was in 3d.  The story is about a teenage boy “Pi” whose family is moving from India to the United States.  They owned the zoo and we’re bringing their animals with them on the trip.  They were on a huge cruise ship when a storm hit.  As they were trying to evacuate a small boat was being lowered into the water when a large wave hit, sending the boat along with Pi. In the ensuing chaos, a zebra manages to get on the small boat along with a hyena and a tiger who was named “Richard Parker“.  I believe all the animals were all done in CGI, which is rather quite amazing since they looked very real.  The story focused on how he was able to survive sharing the limited space with Richard Parker.

Without giving too much away there is a twist to the film at the end which makes you put a lot of thought into it.  The boy who played Pi was very convincing and did a good job of acting. In all, it was a fun journey definitely worth watching.  It stretched a little bit too long for me but I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
