This is the last film that I picked up this season off of the free HBO preview, thought I’d give it a try, heard some noise about it. The two main stars of the film are Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah, both singers more so than actors. But that’s alright because that’s what this film is mostly about. There were quite a few songs sang in this film which quite honestly I fast-forwarded through. I did listen to a few of them however including part of the finale as you may have gathered I’m not a huge gospel fan. I find the gospel singing to be kind of annoying and I generally find these types of films to be annoying as well. The Brightspot in this film was the singing and the relationship between the young mixed-race couple in the film. You wanted to find out what was going to happen between those two and you wanted to find out what was going to happen at the end of the film. Although I found the film to be entertaining, it gives you a warm fuzzy, it has a happy ending, there were good singing and performances but I would not recommend this film to any of my friends. Just not my cup of tea.
