I watched this film over the weekend at the IMAX theater in Ontario. Unfortunately, it was in 3D which did not add to the experience. In fact, it could be argued that it took away from the experience. Anyhow it starred Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as an astronaut and was set in space orbiting Earth. Sandra played the part of Ryan Long, a biologist astronaut who for some reason was doing repairs on the Hubble telescope, really?? During the repairs, word comes over the radio of an explosion of a Russian satellite, the debris of which is heading their way. This is actually the start of a series of dramatic events that carry us through to the end of the film. The best part of this film was not the acting, it was not the plot, more or less it was the setting and it was the visual effects and the cinematography. The way they shot the film, it looked as if they were really in space on a space station. It’s hard to explain, but it looked real. I’ve heard some people complain about CGI effects, but I never even noticed it. The story told was entertaining and as you could tell from the trailers this was a survival story. George Cloney’s part was limited here, almost a cameo. This film was highly entertaining. Go see it.
