Edge of Tomorrow

I didn’t have a lot of high hopes for this film coming into it.  I did get a lot of positive feedback from coworkers who had already seen it.  Being a Tom Cruise and science fiction fan it was a must-see for me.  The setting was in the distant future where an aliens species had invaded our planet and was slowly taking over the world, country by country.  Tom Cruise plays the part of the major in the military who had never previously seen combat. A general told him he would be deployed tomorrow on the front lines.  This is shocking to cruise who had protested against it.  He lacked the military training and courage to takes to be a marine.  On his first day in combat, he ends up killing one of the alien enemies.  He also runs into his co-star Emily Blunt just before dying.  Instead of dying, this turns into sort of a groundhog day movie where he wakes up the day before and everything starts over from that point. From here he had to figure out what the steps were to prevent the alien race from taking over the world.  I found the film to be very enjoyable.   There was humor in certain parts of the film and it was a fun ride, trying to figure out what Tom Cruise was going to do next.  I normally don’t like time travel movies but I do make an exception for this film.  It was done very well.  As of right now, this is my favorite movie of 2014.  Highly recommended.
