In order to round out my 2012 best movies of the year list, I had to check out this movie. It stars Christoph Waltz as a bounty Hunter and Jamie Foxx as a freed slave. The film is directed by Quentin Tarantino, So you know he’s going to put his spin into it, and boy did he do that. Waltzes’ character tracks down Foxx’s’ character and frees him from slavery because he knows the people he is trying to track down in order to collect a bounty. Waltzes’ acting was brilliant and was the high point of the film. Foxx’s character eventually reveals he is married to a slave, who is played by Keri Washington. They make a deal to bounty hunt during the winter months, then go get Foxx’s wife in the spring. This is when they hatched a plan and we are introduced to Leo Decaprios character, who plays wealthy plantation and slave owner. This is where the main “meat” of the movie is focused. Without going into too much detail, skipping to the end Django eventually gets his wife back and the credits roll, after nearly three hours. Yeah, I said it, this film was about 45 minutes too long. It did have excellent cinematography, and you were compelled to watch it. There were a lot of violent scenes in the movie including Christoph Waltz’s character who with all his suave and smooth-talking, was basically a serial killing murderer. Overall, I would not say this is one of the year’s best films, not for me. It was good enough to get four stars. I would recommend it, especially if you are a Quentin Tarantino fan or if you like the actors in the film including Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leo DeCaprio, and Keri Washington.
