Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

This film continues where “rise” left off, with the genetically modified apes having escaped into the wilderness.  This really is a scientist’s worst nightmare.  To me, it is unclear just how long they were left alone, but by the timeline of this film, there are hundreds if not thousands of these apes.  They were not all as smart as their leader “Ceasar”.  The film revolved around trying to regain control of a dam that was deep into the ape territory, requiring a sort of treaty to keep the peace.  I could easily see something like this happening if a genetically modified beast ever escaped scientific captivity.  What ends up happening in this story, the apes end up having a new more ruthless, less intelligent leader rise up to challenge the leadership of Ceasar.  This challenge of power ultimately ends up resulting in unnecessary loss of life on both sides.

The main problem I have with this film is that it has deviated too far from the original 1968 films.  These were where the standard was set. Maybe I am just a purist, I don’t know, I just know I liked them better.  Having said that, this film was entertaining and I did enjoy it.
