D2K Special Edition LTO Flash ROM by Carl Mueller Jr.
This past Saturday evening, on September 29th, 2018, Carl Mueller Jr., released the LTO flash! compatible ROM version of his amazing game “D2K Arcade Special Edition”. This “Special Edition” release, expands upon “D2K arcade” adding two new playing screens, “The Foundry” and “The Incinerator”. The ROM is encrypted to specifically work with your LTO Flash! Cartridge.
I made this video to put the word out and to help support this release as well as his other recently released ROMs for the Intellivision. It is currently available for $20 on his website:
Let me tell you a little more about Carl Mueller Jr. Over the past 20 years here are SOME of his accomplishments:
He wrote the very first emulator for the Intellivision, which was published on the Intellivision Lives CD. He coded a GameBoy color emulator which has not yet been picked up. He followed that up with an NES intellivision emulator. He went on write vastly improved versions of Donkey Kong for the Intellivision, named “DK Arcade” and “D2K Arcade”. He followed that up with the impressive release of Ms. Pac-Man for the Intellivision. Thanks to the Intellivisonaries Podcast, there are a couple of audio interviews with Carl, covering his arcade ports.
On episode 15 of the Intellivisionaries Podcast, Carl did an interview covering his Donkey Kong games. He said he just started out trying to figure out why the Coleco version was done the way it was. He figured it was probably mostly due to time constraints. At first he was just sort of playing around with a single-level version he had coded, then the project stalled for quite some time, over seven years, before finally completing the project.
On episode 29, of the Intellivisonaries Podcast, Carl was again interviewed, this time covering his terrific port of Ms. Pac-Man for the Intellivison, which features three playable characters, four different maze themes and all three intermissions from the arcade.
In case all of that is not impressive enough, Carls NES emulator (I4NES) and his Ms. Pac-Man port were both created 100% using voice recognition software. In my email correspondence with Carl we talked a little about his disability, the main thing being in the early days he was able to use his hands a little more than he can now.
I asked him about the current projects he’s working on for the Intellivision. Among other things, he hinted at the following:
“the possibility of doing Intellivision mini-cades using NES on a chip hardware (I4NES), and I may at some point finish up super EXEC (replaces the built-in EXEC, offers cleaner transitions, smoother motion, more responsive controls, and in some cases, enhanced sound)”.
I don’t know about you guys, but I find Carl Meuller Jr. inspiring. I’ve supported him through purchasing his games & ROMs, and I hope that I have convinced a couple of you, to do the same. Over on his website on the right-hand side there’s a paypal donation button, where you can make payment to purchase his ROMs, or to make a donation of any amount. It’s homebrewers and people like him that are keeping the Intellivision alive so many years after its original release, way back in 1979.
Again, if you would like to help support Carl Mueller Jr. his website is
