I rewatched this film on Netflix streaming last night. It was much better than I remembered. Alicia Silverstone played Cher, Brittany Murphy played Tai, Stacy Dash played Dionne and Paul Rudd played Josh. This is another teenage high school comedy. The standout was, of course, Alicia Silverstone. In this film, she plays a sort of ditzy, valley girl type, but at the same time somehow, she is adorable. I am partially biased, kind of remembering I sort of had a crush on her around that time. This film shows me why. You can’t help but like her in this movie. She does play a sort of stuck up rich girl who lives in a mansion with her rich dad, but she is not mean spirited. She tries to help Brittany Murphy’s nerdy character to become popular and set her up with someone. Stacy Dash is essentially the token pretty black girl who kind of acts white, but really does not add much to the film. Paul Rudds, Josh ends up being a love interest for Silverstone. The takeaway line in this film is ‘as if...’ spoken by Silverstone. I thought this film was ‘cute’ and would recommend it to teenagers, 17-18-year-olds, but would not recommend to my much older friends.
