I picked up this documentary off of Showtime, otherwise, I can almost guarantee I would have missed it. I am really glad I watched it for a few reasons. First, it was a really good documentary. Second, it showed a different side to Billy Joel, who for some reason, in my mind was not pictured in a positive light. Much to my surprise and recollection, I found myself enjoying him and his music. Growing up, I had come to enjoy many of his songs without even knowing they were from him. The documentary covered his concert tour in Russia in the 1980s during the Cold War. This was the first time that an American rock band had done this. It was enjoyable to see the Russians rocking out to the Billy Joel songs. Most of them had never even heard the songs nor knew English for that matter. He made friends with some of the locals, introduced them to his family, and even brought his son on stage at one point. I believe the point he was trying to make is that we are all just humans and not some strange bad guys that should be going to war. There were a few cameos from the band and from the present-day version of his beautiful ex-wife Christie Brinkly.
Highly Recommend.
