Grizzly Man (2005)

After hearing about this film from listening to the Joe Rogan podcast I decided to give it a chance on the Netflix queue.  It was mostly about a man who enjoyed nature and loved grizzlies and foxes and was afraid of the life of living in the real world and it was kind of sad he retreated to the world of grizzly bears with whom he found comfort.  His name was Timothy Treadwell, he devoted his life to studying grizzly bears.  In the end, he and his female companion are mauled to death by one.  His companion was herself afraid of the grizzlies.  I believe you can take a couple of things away from this film, number one stay the hell away from grizzlies, but more importantly, it’s more of a character study into the life of a man who cared about them dearly.

Timothy’s body was discovered by the pilot of the aircraft that was commissioned to return him back home.  He saw what looked like human ribs being feasted on by a grizzly so he made several passes over the body try to scare away the Bears which didn’t work and ended up having to go back for help.  When they returned, they ended up killing the bear that ate Timothy and his companion.

The film was directed by Werner Herzog and was artfully done, unfortunately for me, it didn’t evoke emotion like I believe it could have, but I still found it entertaining enough for three stars.
