I recorded this film from a recent showing on Showtime. To the best of my recollection, I had never watched it before, so I was going into it with fresh eyes. When the opening credits listed, it displayed much to my surprise, that one of the film’s stars is Lindsey Lohan. With all of the bad publicity she has going on, along with her drug addiction issues, I was interested to see a younger version of Lindsey, pre-real life issues. After watching this film, I realized I have seen another of her films, “The Parent Trap“. She was so young and so cute in it, but I had completely forgotten about it. Lindsey was the stand out star of “Mean Girls“. Her voice, looks, and acting were on bold display, and she made the film enjoyable. It’s hard for me not to compare it to a similar film, “Clueless”, that I recently watched. I liked Clueless better. Now about the film. Lindsey is fresh into High School after spending her whole life being homeschooled in Africa. She really wants to fit in and make new friends. She ends up befriending two gay students, a boy, and a girl. They end up helping her get in close with the “plastics”, a clique of the most popular girls in school. Really, what she set out to do was to pretend to be friends with them so they could get dirt on them and help out her other friends. Without giving away the whole story, the girls were of course very mean to each other. Lindsey’s character was at first not noticed, then liked, then hated, then liked again by all. The other well-known actress was Tina Fey who played one of the school’s teachers, a respectable performance. Watching the film with knowledge of today’s events and the problems Lindsey is currently going through, it’s hard not to have much sympathy for her. This might be a case of innocence lost, unfortunately, because she had so much potential. Of course, her life is not over, so hopefully, she will get clean, and rebound with a great role.
