Valkyrie (2008)

I watched this film for the second time off of Showtime for the purposes of reviewing it.  I really enjoyed it watching it the first time, the second time it holds up just as well.  It stars Tom Cruise as Col. Claus Von Stauffenberg, an army officer who is along with many other higher-ups, plotted against the Hitlers Nazi Germany.  It was at the time of my first viewing, the first time I had heard of this concept.  It also helps that the storyline was based on a true story.  This film had a lot going for it, drama, suspense, and explosions.  For anyone that knows anything about European history, it couldn’t have been too suspenseful, at least in terms of what happened to the furor.  There was a lot more to this story than you would think.  The plan was to enact “Valkyre” which was the plan to take over government operations after the furor had died.  Several important steps had to occur prior to thIs, including, of course, the assassination attempt.  I am not doing a great job of describing how good the build-up was and the tension.  This was mostly what made the film so good.  I would like to speak to the beginning of the film, where the transition was made from German to Spanish.  Although I am sure this has been done before, it was effective.  I am not going to give away the ending this time.   Tom Cruises’ performance was excellent and very believable.  Highly recommend.
