Carrie (2013)

Being that it’s the tail end of October, I was inclined to watch a horror flick.  It just so happened that this film had just come out.  It’s of course a remake of an old Stephen King made for the movies classic.  The film stared the beautiful Chloe Grace Mortez, a young actress that up until now, has not been on my radar, as Carrie.  Carrie was an unpopular girl in High School.  She had a super religious, sort of crazy mother played by Julianne Moore. The story goes something like this.  One day while in gym class, Carrie had her first period, unexpectedly.   The girls brutally made fun of her throwing tampon and maxis at her while filming her on a cell phone.  Shortly after this incident, Carrie starts to recognize she has supernatural powers supposedly, demonic, allowing her to levitate large objects, and fling them across the room.  One of the most popular girls in school felt guilty about her participation in the hazing and asks her boyfriend to ask her to the prom.  I felt the acting by the boyfriend, played by Ansel Elgort, was pretty good.  I expect he will be someone to watch out for in future films.   Anyhow, he does end up taking her to prom and they end up winning prom king and queen titles.  During the announcement pigs, blood is dumped on the two of them.  A lovely way to end a nice evening out.  This of course sets Carrie off on a rampage.  The rest is history.  I think Chloe Grace Mortez played the part very well, and this may be her break out role.  I would recommend this film.
