I watched this film over the weekend at the Imax theater in Ontario. This was the third installment in the iron man series, starring Robert Downey jr, Gwenneth Paltrow, Don Cheatle, and Guy Pierce. There was one year a while back when Don Cheatle seemingly in every movie. Anyhow in this iteration of the series, Tony Stark has upgraded his tech, to the point of ridiculousness. His suit can now be split into a dozen or more independent pieces and each piece can fly through the air and locate its master. Having suspended disbelief, I was able to get into this film and enjoy it. Guy Pierce’s portrayal was great and fun to watch. He had genetically modified his body to rebuild itself and to create enormous temperatures, making him into a formidable foe for Iron Man to deal with. There were some annoying references to the avengers but it did not detract too much from the fun. Going back to the Imax experience, the enhanced audio especially made it a valued upgrade. The 3D effects were if anything, forgettable adding very little, some would say, subtracting from the experience. Overall I liked this film a lot and would recommend it.
