Alex Cross

I rented this film today solely because Tyler Perry is starring in it and he is not dressing up as an old lady.  For the first time I can remember, I am going to get a chance to see him in a serious role.  Will he live up to my expectations?  How high are my expectations?  I would say yeah, he did a pretty good job of acting in the film, my expectations were not that high and were met.  However, for some reason, I expected a better plot for this film.  The main villain in this film was played by Matthew Fox from “Lost” fame.  He is seriously slimmed down and looks like he packed on some muscle, hopefully not just for this role.  He was believable as the psychopathic murderer for hire.  Spoilers…  Perry investigates the first crime scene and figures out from a clue left behind, who the next target was going to be.  First off, really, what kind of professional murderer leaves behind breadcrumbs intentionally so that the cops might find out who the next intended victim is? I’ll tell you who, its the kind of villain in this film, played by Fox.  So with this information, the cops are able to foil the next crime and because of that, Perry is now in the crosshairs of Fox.  I thought this part of the movie was predictable, Fox ends up assassinating Perry’s wife at dinner which sets up a vendetta.  This leads to a scene where they know the bad guy is going to attack but don’t know from where.  Come on Tyler, get in the mind of the criminal, what would you do if you were him, how would you attack?  “The Train”…. Come on really. Then the end of the film comes where inevitably the good guy gets the bad guy.  At that point, the film should have ended, but it did not.  Instead, it lingered for a few more minutes.  At any rate, I was entertained but would not recommend this film to anyone, except for die-hard fans of Tyler Perry.
