This was listed as one of the best movies of 2012. It was highly anticipated by me as well although I did not spring to go to the theatre to see it. It stars Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, as well as several others including Helen Bonham Carter and Sasha Baron Cohen. I really didn’t want to watch this film once I discovered that it was 2 hours and 40 minutes long but I have to say I did enjoy the performances in the film. The story was hard to follow in fact I have no idea what was really going on. I really wasn’t paying that much attention. I was enjoying the performances listening to the singing, trying to follow as much as I could but quite honestly I got a little bit bored and was reading my tablet at the same time. The gist of the story was Hugh Jackman started out as a slave and was working for Russell Crowe. Russell Crowe freed him from slavery and he later when on to be a successful businessman. Later on in the film, the tables were turned where Hugh Jackman was the boss and he and Russell Crowe was in trouble and had to set him Russel Crowe free. There was a love story revolving around Hugh Jackman’s daughter. Helen Bonham Carter’s character was almost identical to her character in Sweeney Todd all the way down to she worked in a shop making food. Her costume was exactly like it was in Sweeney Todd. Honestly, I think Russell Crowe’s character was miscast just going by the singing not so much the acting. Honestly, I think I could have played his part and sung just as good as him and I can’t sing. There was singing until the end of the movie, then the credits rolled. I did enjoy it, three stars.
