Footnote (2011)

I would like to start off by saying I did not really like this film that much and would not recommend it to anyone.  This is a foreign language film with English subtitles.  It was well-acted.  It was about a man who is incorrectly awarded the Israel prize of the year when it was supposed to go to his son.  The man did not know about the mistake, but the son did.  The father and son both did academic research in the same field. They were both professors and worked at the same university.  The father was kind of falling into mediocrity teaching one class a year with one student in it.  His biggest achievement is being mentioned as a ‘Footnote’ in a famous researcher’s book.  The son was the head of the department and was very popular on campus and had won many awards.  The father did a lot of research in the field but there was a sort of competition between the father and the son.  In the end, the father figured out that he was not the original recipient of the award,  but decided to accept it anyway, a sort of dig at his son, and the credits roll.   I was expecting more meat to the ending of the film.  It was one of those films where it just ended right when you thought there was going to be something happening, which was a bit of a disappointment.  Other people have described this film as being humorous or a comedy but I didn’t see it that way at all.
