The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)

Continuing with my AMC marathon I decided to watch this film. This was the final film in the marathon  I recorded. It told the story of Josey Wales, who at the beginning of the film was a farmer with a wife and a kid.  It was set in the civil war era. One day while doing some basic farming Josey wales wife and kids are burned down in a house fire which was set by one side of the civil war.  To avenge his loss he joins forces with the other side.  Eventually, a price is placed on his head making him an outlaw.  Along his journey, he picks up a handful of followers.  These followers were what made the film much more interesting.  Wales had a disgusting habit in this film, which was spitting his tobacco on whatever was nearby.  One of his followers, Sandra Locke, later married Clint Eastwood and went on to star in several of his films.  Anyhow Josey Wales eventually finds a place to settle down, assuming a false name.  At the end of the film, he meets with his nemesis who pretends not to recognize him.  I felt the film stretched a bit too long for me.  I probably would give this one two and a half stars if I could.  I would only recommend it to die-hard Eastwood fans.
